Autonomous Pallet Handling Robot vs Forklift

The decision is not really "robot or forklift" but which moves can be delegated. Most of a pallet's daily journey in a warehouse follows known, repeating routes; the MP2000 takes that part while the forklift keeps the variable, unpredictable work. Below, the mechanical difference between the two is set against the MP2000's own technical data.

Which moves can be delegated to a robot?

Goods-in to storage, storage to the line, line to dispatch: known routes repeated dozens of times a day. On those runs the MP2000 picks up, moves and places pallets of up to 2000 kg with its forks. Fork insertion takes 20 seconds; travel speed is 1.6 m/s unloaded and 1.2 m/s at full load.

What cannot be delegated is usually the one-off, irregular, outdoor or above-2000 kg work. That stays with the forklift.

Infrastructure: magnetic tape or SLAM?

In a classic line-guided AGV installation the route is defined by magnetic tape or reflectors on the floor, so a change in warehouse layout means a change in infrastructure. The MP2000 navigates with 3D LiDAR-SLAM fused with VSLAM: no reflectors, no tape, no floor markers. On-board edge AI judges whether a storage location is occupied, what pallet type it faces and whether clearance is sufficient, and aligns itself to manually placed pallets offset by up to 15 cm and angled up to 15 degrees.

Shift continuity and charging

Battery life is 12 hours unloaded and 6 hours at full load. Charging takes about 2 hours at 200-240 Vac or 3.2 hours at 100-120 Vac, so material flow does not stop during shifts where operators are hard to staff.

Narrow aisles and space gain

Aisle width is usually the real constraint. The MP2000 performs 90-degree pallet pickup in 2000 mm aisles for 1200×1000 mm pallets and 1960 mm aisles for 1200×800 mm pallets, with pallet spacing down to 15 cm, which densifies existing space instead of expanding it.

How safety is built

Depth cameras and 3D LiDAR form a multi-layer perception stack with 360-degree coverage of people, equipment and obstacles: avoid or stop for dynamic obstacles, reroute autonomously around static ones. The robot's behaviour does not vary from shift to shift, which keeps safety procedure predictable.

When should the forklift stay?

The MP2000 climbs 3 degrees at full load and 8 degrees unloaded and is built for indoor floors. Loads above 2000 kg, yard work, ramp-heavy operations and high-rack stacking stay with the forklift. The right setup is usually both together: repetitive horizontal transport on the robot, variable and heavy work with the operator.
