Overview

The 20T Heavy-Duty is the 20 tonne model in the heavy-duty line of Siasun's customised mobile robot portfolio. It is the upper end of the class that carries complete vehicles and chassis in the final section of heavy truck assembly through dual-vehicle linkage; two robots drive under the long load, share it and advance in sync along the assembly stations. The superstructure is changed for shipyard steel blocks, aircraft fuselage parts and large structural steel. Lifting height is 80-100 mm, positioning accuracy ±10 mm and gradeability 3 percent. Navigation is chosen by site as SLAM, magnetic guidance or colour tape; in its heavy-duty robots Siasun uses natural contour, magnetic, inertial, laser, visual and base station navigation and combines several methods in complex environments. The wheel system balances load bearing with traction and protects the floor; the robot moves in every direction with no turning-radius constraint, carries without bumps under stable speed control and crosses obstacles. Safety hardware consists of an emergency stop, audible and visual alarms and non-contact anti-collision; heavy-duty designs follow ISO 3691-4 at PL d and e. The complete vehicle on the robot's back

Towards the end of a heavy truck assembly line the chassis takes on its engine, cab and axles and approaches twenty tonnes; at that point the line is the most expensive and least flexible section of the drag chain. Since 2018 Siasun has built that section with dual-vehicle-linkage mobile robots: two robots drive under the long chassis, share the load and advance in sync along the assembly stations. The 20T Heavy-Duty is the upper end of that class; an 80 to 100 mm lifting height is enough to raise the load and set it down at the station, and omnidirectional motion lets the chassis approach a station sideways. The same body serves shipyard steel blocks, aircraft fuselage parts and large structural steel with a different superstructure.

Its place in the heavy-duty line

The 20T Heavy-Duty sits above the line's 10T model and below the 30T; the series starts at the 3T and 5T and scales to 120 tonnes through the 60T and 80T. All models share the same navigation options, ±10 mm positioning, omnidirectional motion and safety hardware; the distinction is payload, lifting height (80-100 mm on the 20T) and the superstructure designed to the workpiece. Above twenty tonnes, two robots working in sync take the place of a single one; the method applies to truck chassis and to long structural steel alike.

Wheel system and omnidirectional motion

Tens of tonnes crack concrete unless they are spread; in heavy-duty robots the wheel layout therefore matters as much as capacity. The wheel system of the Siasun heavy-duty line balances load bearing with traction and protects the floor; the line scales from 3 to 120 tonnes. The robot moves in every direction with no turning-radius constraint: a 20 t load slides sideways in narrow assembly halls, turns on the spot and travels diagonally. Stable speed control delivers both throughput and bump-free transport; obstacle crossing and bump resistance bring adaptation to different process sites. The lifting mechanism drives under the load, raises it and sets it down at the station.

Navigation and safety

Navigation is chosen by site: SLAM laser mapping, magnetic guidance or colour tape; positioning accuracy is ±10 mm in all three. In its heavy-duty robots Siasun uses natural contour, magnetic, inertial, laser, visual and base station navigation and combines several methods in complex environments; most of the navigation sensors are its own developments. Safety hardware consists of an emergency stop, audible and visual alarms and non-contact anti-collision; heavy-duty designs follow ISO 3691-4 with safety levels engineered to PL d and e, and brakes, stall protection and actuator safeguards are added. Gradeability is 3 percent.

Customisation and outdoor use

The heavy-duty line is a customised product class: the body and auxiliary mechanisms are designed around the workpiece's centre of gravity, the robot's size limits, the slope requirement, the safety of oversized parts and the transfer and docking method; piggyback, chain conveyor and turntable mechanisms are examples. Outdoor editions are protected against rain, snow and dust, with safe outdoor navigation and charging part of the design; in 2024 waterproof, outdoor-capable, ultra-low-profile editions were developed for the energy storage sector. The robot switches seamlessly between multi-robot coordination and single-robot operation; the fleet layer is IMRS 2.0.
