The Galbot G1 is a dual-arm general-purpose service robot on a wheeled base. Maximum height is 1730 mm and weight 92.5 kg; a 650 mm leg lift travel lets the torso rise from floor level to shelf height. Arm length from shoulder to wrist is 710 mm, and the workspace measured at the wrist centre spans 0-2100 mm vertically and 1900 mm horizontally. Overview

The Galbot G1 is a dual-arm general-purpose service robot on a wheeled base. Galbot is a Chinese company founded in 2023 working on embodied foundation models, and the G1 is its most widely deployed product.

Mechanically: maximum height 1730 mm and weight 92.5 kg. A 650 mm leg lift travel raises the torso from floor level to shelf height. Arm length from shoulder centre to wrist centre is 710 mm, and the workspace at the wrist centre spans 0-2100 mm vertically and 1900 mm horizontally. Excluding chassis and end-effectors there are 21 degrees of freedom: neck 2, seven per arm, waist 3 and legs 2. The base is four-wheel omnidirectional, 600 × 600 mm with a 625 mm projected circle diameter, and a maximum speed of 1.5 m/s.

Payload at the wrist centre is 5 kg per arm and 10 kg with both. The end-effector swaps between a dexterous hand, a suction cup and a gripper.

The perception layer draws on four sources: a binocular camera in the head, four RGB cameras and an IMU in the torso, two depth cameras and two six-axis force sensors at the wrists, and a 3D LiDAR, eight ultrasonic sensors and an IMU on the chassis. Compute is 275 TOPS on an NVIDIA AGX Orin 64 GB.

For interaction there is a 5.5-inch 1920 × 1080 touchscreen, two linear four-microphone arrays and two 5 W speakers. Networking covers WiFi 2.4 and 5 GHz with Bluetooth 5.2, and expansion USB 3.0 ×2 and HDMI.

On energy, a 48 V 30 Ah battery gives eight hours of operation and charges in 3.5 hours from a 54.6 V 10 A adapter. Protection is IP54, operating temperature 0-40 degrees and relative humidity 0-90% non-condensing.

Disturbance Rejection

When an object is displaced during a grasp or the robot is pushed from outside, the motion has to be replanned. Six-axis force sensors at the wrists measure contact force while four torso RGB cameras and the binocular head camera refresh the scene; planning continues off that feedback.

Multiple Scenarios

The same body is used across retail, pharmacy, home service and manufacturing environments. Being able to swap the end-effector between a dexterous hand, a suction cup and a gripper is what makes that possible: suction for boxes, a gripper for flexible packaging, a dexterous hand where fine manipulation is required.

For interaction there is a 5.5-inch 1920 × 1080 touchscreen, two linear four-microphone arrays and two 5 W speakers. The two arrays serve to locate the speaker's direction and separate speech in a noisy store environment.

The workspace at the wrist centre spans 0-2100 mm vertically and 1900 mm horizontally. That means reaching the lower and upper levels of a shelving unit without moving the wheeled base. Three waist axes rotate the torso, so no base manoeuvre is needed to reach a shelf to the side.

The perception layer draws on four sources: the binocular head camera, four torso RGB cameras, two wrist depth cameras and the chassis 3D LiDAR. Having wrist cameras keeps the target object visible as the hand approaches; in a head-only arrangement, vision is cut the moment the hand occludes the object.

Pharmacy and grocery shelves are predictable environments for grasping, since the products are box-shaped and arranged in order. In these scenarios the G1 is used for picking, handover, counting and restocking. A suction cup suits boxed packaging and a gripper flexible packaging.

Technical Analysis of a Wheeled Base in General-Purpose Service

What the 650 mm Lift Travel Solves

On a fixed-height service robot, reach is bounded by arm length: it must bend to pick off the floor and be tall enough to reach an upper shelf, and both cannot hold at once. On the G1 two degrees of freedom in the legs raise the torso through 650 mm, opening a 0-2100 mm vertical workspace at the wrist centre. In practice that means a single robot can target both a box at floor level and a shelf at two metres. The alternatives are two separate machines or a platform for the robot to climb, and both cost space and money in an in-store installation.

Wrist Force Sensors and Camera Placement

Two things determine grasp success: seeing the object until the last moment and measuring contact force. On the G1 the wrists carry both a depth camera and a six-axis force sensor. Camera placement is critical: in a head-only arrangement the hand occludes the view as it approaches, leaving the robot blind for the final centimetres. The force sensor tells it when the grasp has closed and whether the object is slipping; without one the robot works on position commands alone and either crushes or drops flexible packaging.

IP54 and the Operating Envelope

IP54 means protection against dust and resistance to splashing water from any direction. That is an adequate class for indoor retail, pharmacy and warehousing, but not for wash-down food production or outdoor use. Operating temperature is stated as 0-40 degrees and relative humidity as 0-90% non-condensing; a cold store falls outside that range. These three values should be read together when deciding on an installation: IP54 rules out wet areas, the 0-degree floor rules out cold storage, and the non-condensing condition rules out transition zones with large temperature swings.

Engineering Assessment

The G1's design follows the constraints of the service scenario consistently. At 92.5 kg it sits on the light side for wheeled dual-arm robots in this class: the Fourier GRW is 160 kg and Galbot's own S1 is 320 kg. Being light helps with floor loading and in-store manoeuvring, but dual-arm payload is limited to 10 kg in return. The 650 mm lift travel and the resulting 0-2100 mm vertical workspace let one machine work from the floor to the top of a shelf, which is decisive in retail and pharmacy. Carrying both a depth camera and a force sensor at each wrist is a serious choice on the grasping side. IP54 and the 0-40 degree range fix its use indoors. For work where repeat accuracy is critical, such as precision assembly or quality inspection, those two values should be requested before ordering.
