What Is Unitree Motor Assistant?
Unitree Motor Assistant is the official configuration and debugging application Unitree Robotics publishes for its own joint motors. It has a Qt 6.6.3-based graphical interface and communicates with the motor over a serial port. The source and ready-to-run build are published in the official GitHub repository. The tool currently supports Windows only.
Which Motors Does It Support?
According to the official repository, the tool is compatible with Unitree's J288/S288 and IM6014 motor models. For the more widely known GO-M8010-6 education motor, Unitree ships a separate debugging tool — we covered its guide on this page. The two tools are not interchangeable; pick the right one for your motor model.
Setup: Download and Run
The repository ships a ready-to-run Windows application with the required Qt libraries and runtime dependencies bundled; no separate installation step is needed. The official user guide is published among the IM6014 development documents on the Unitree support portal.
Licensing: Can You Use It Commercially?
The application itself is BSD 3-Clause licensed — free to use in commercial and academic projects. The bundled Qt 6.6.3 libraries fall under LGPLv3; Unitree explicitly states LGPLv3 applies only to the Qt libraries, and dynamic linking allows the DLLs to be swapped for compatible alternatives.
