Overview
The Unitree AS2-W is the wheeled-legged hybrid variant of the AS2 industrial platform. With 7-inch oversized wheels and 95 N·m industrial joint modules, it automatically adapts to stairs, gravel and steep slopes, clearing obstacles up to 80 cm and gradients up to 45°. Its 648 Wh battery delivers 30+ km unloaded range (about 3 hours) and 25 km with a 16 kg load. Featuring ISS 3.0 autonomous side-follow, centimeter-level positioning, industrial 64~128-line LiDAR and IP54 protection, it is optimized for factory inspection, security patrol, logistics and field exploration. Available in AS2-W X (commercial) and AS2-W EDU (up to 150 TOPS compute expansion, open SDK) variants. Backed by official partner robotlar.org in Turkey.

What the Wheeled-Legged Architecture Buys
AS2-W is a quadruped that uses wheels instead of feet: the efficiency of the wheel on flat ground, the capability of the leg at an obstacle. The numerical payoff is range: roughly 30 km and ~3 hours of continuous motion unloaded on a 648 Wh battery, ~25 km and over 2 hours with a 16 kg load. Classic legged gait cannot reach these distances on the same energy, because every step does the work of lifting and lowering the body. In exchange, 80 cm step clearance and ~45° slope capability are retained; the wheel does not replace the leg at an obstacle, it is added to it.
The Two Separate Payload Figures
Two payload figures are published for the AS2-W and they must not be conflated: static ~150 kg and continuous walking ~16 kg. The static value is what the body can bear while the robot stands; it applies to mounting fixed equipment and operating in place. The continuous walking payload is what can be carried in motion, and it is the number that should drive project sizing. Against a 25 kg body weight, 16 kg of continuous payload is a payload-to-weight ratio of roughly 0.64.
Sensing and Compute
- Industrial-grade 64-128-line LiDAR: line count sets vertical resolution and is critical for discriminating low obstacles and stair treads.
- 8-core high-performance CPU (standard).
- 150 TOPS high-performance expansion module: optional, for real-time on-device perception.
- IP54 protection: dust-protected and resistant to water spray from any direction. Full immersion and pressure washing are out of scope.
Engineering Assessment
AS2-W's natural job is long-distance patrol and inspection: power-plant sites, pipelines, large warehouses, construction sites. A 30 km range covers these scenarios on a single charge. Its limit is IP54: when evaluating it for sustained rain, pressure washing or a wet process environment, the protection rating must be checked first. The second limit is the wheel itself: mud, deep snow and loose sand are weak ground for a wheeled architecture; where those dominate, the classic legged AS2 is the better choice.
