Unitree G1 Humanoid Robot's Boundary-Pushing Skating Demo: The Age of Hybrid Mobility

UNITREE Turkey Hub & Competence Center
Unitree Robotics has released a new video showcasing the incredible performance of its G1 humanoid robot on roller skates and ice skates. Its wheeled-legged hybrid structure opens a new chapter in robotic mobility.

Flawless Balance on Skates and Ice

G1's most striking feature is its ability to maintain balance on both roller skates on asphalt and ice skates on a rink, thanks to coordinated wheel-leg control. By transitioning smoothly between rolling and stepping modes, the robot blurs the line between robotics and sport. This capability allows the system to navigate complex surfaces and varied terrains much more effectively than traditional designs.

Dynamic Maneuvers: 360 Turns and Flips

G1 doesn't just move straight; it successfully demonstrates high-dynamism maneuvers like continuous 360-degree turns, one-leg spins, and even front flips. These acrobatic feats are the result of the robot's real-time balance algorithms, high-torque density joints, and advanced simulation training (Sim-to-Real).

G1-D: The Rise of the Wheeled Humanoid

Unitree took the wheeled humanoid concept to the next level with the G1-D model introduced in late 2025. G1-D is a platform optimized for data collection and AI model training. The Flagship version can reach speeds of 1.5 m/s with its differential-drive wheeled base, offering 19 degrees of freedom (DoF) despite its 80 kg weight.

Technical Hardware and AI Capacity

The G1 Flagship model is equipped with an NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX module delivering 100 TOPS of processing power. It perceives its surroundings in 3D with a binocular camera integrated into the head and close-range perception cameras on the wrists. Additionally, it offers high precision in object manipulation thanks to Dex3-1 dexterous hands. This hardware, combined with Unitree's full-stack software ecosystem, supports all AI workflows from data annotation to simulation.
