26 August 2016: Where the Decade Started
Wang Xingxing founded Unitree Robotics in Hangzhou on 26 August 2016. The starting premise was to bring quadruped robots, then reachable only by a handful of research labs, down to an accessible price. Ten years on, the portfolio spans quadrupeds, humanoids and embodied-AI platforms.

Prototype and First Generation (2013-2020)
- XDog (2013-2016) — The prototype Wang Xingxing built before founding the company; the first application of Unitree's direct-drive joint approach.
- Laikago (2017) — The company's first public product, named after Laika, the first dog in space.
- Laikago Pro (2018) — An upgraded Laikago.
- AlienGo (2019) — A mid-class platform aimed at higher payload and endurance. Its successor today is the Unitree AS2; see our AlienGo successor page.
- A1 (2020) — A fast, lightweight research platform; the model that introduced Unitree to a generation of university labs.
Product Segmentation (2021-2026): The Go, B and A Lines
In this era Unitree split one robot into three lines by use class: consumer/research (Go), heavy industrial (B) and field (A).
- Go1 (2021) — The first mass-market model, known for its side-follow system. Succeeded by Go2; we cover both in the Go1 vs Go2 comparison.
- B1 (2021) — The first industrial-line member, built around ingress protection and payload.
- Go2 (2023) — The best-selling model of the series, with 4D LiDAR L2 and AI interaction. Sold today as Go2 and the wheeled Go2-W.
- B2 (2023) — Successor to the B1 for heavy industry and inspection: B2 and B2-W.
- A2 (2025) — A field- and patrol-oriented generation: A2 and A2-W.
- AS2 (2026) — The newest working quadruped: AS2 and AS2-W.
Industry Application (2022-2026): Mission-Specific Variants
This branch turned general-purpose platforms into variants adapted to specific sites: Fire Control (2022) and Inspection (2022) carry firefighting and facility-inspection equipment on a quadruped body. In 2025-2026 the same approach moved to the humanoid side with G1-D (2025), R1-D (2026) and H2-D (2026), fixed-base dual-arm workstation configurations. From this line we carry G1-D and R1-D.
Product Expansion (2021-2026): Arms, LiDAR and Peripherals
The components around the robot became a product line of their own: the Z1 (2021) robotic arm, PUMP (2022) and PUMP MAX (2024), the L1 & L2 (2023) LiDAR sensors, and GD01 (2026). These mount on quadruped and humanoid platforms to widen mission scope; the L2 LiDAR, for instance, is standard equipment on today's Go2.
Humanoid Robots (2023-2026): From H1 to H2 Plus
- H1 (2023) — Unitree's first full-size humanoid, unveiled in August 2023. Discontinued; replaced by the H2.
- G1 (2024) — The compact humanoid introduced on 13 May 2024, the model that brought humanoids within reach of university and R&D budgets. Sold today as the G1.
- R1 (2025) — An ultra-light humanoid released in July 2025: R1.
- H2 (2025) — The full-size next generation released on 20 October 2025: H2.
- H2 Plus (2026) — An upgraded member of the H2 family: H2 Plus.
