Dual Arms for Labs Working on Manipulation

Go2 and G1 cover locomotion, perception and reinforcement learning coursework, while manipulation topics such as grasping, placement and bimanual coordination call for a dual-arm platform. The Unitree R1-D fills that gap: R1-A5 arms with 5 degrees of freedom or R1-A7 arms with 7, ±0.1 mm end-effector accuracy and 10-100 TOPS of compute depending on configuration. The 5-DOF arm is the clearer starting point for inverse kinematics and trajectory planning classes, while the 7-DOF arm opens up graduate topics such as redundant arm control and obstacle-aware planning. Keeping one legged and one dual-arm platform in the same lab extends the curriculum from locomotion through to manipulation without a break.
